Wide Awake

Katy Perry (born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on 25 October 1984) is a singer/songwriter from Santa Barbara, California, United States. Since the release of her 2007 debut single “Ur So Gay”, Perry has released two albums – 2008’s “One of the Boys” and 2010’s “Teenage Dream” – and has had six Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit singles.

Under the name Katy Hudson, she released a self-titled gospel album in 2001, which was unsuccessful. She later recorded an album with production team The Matrix and completed the majority of a solo album from 2004–05, the later of which was never released. After signing with Capitol Music Group in 2007, her fourth record label in seven years, she adopted the stage name Katy Perry and released her first Internet single “Ur So Gay” that November, which garnered public attention but failed to chart. She rose to fame with the release of her second single “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008, which went on to top international charts. Perry’s first mainstream studio album One of the Boys followed later that year and subsequently became the 33rd-best selling album worldwide of 2008. It was accredited platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, while “I Kissed a Girl” and her second single “Hot n Cold” both received multi-platinum certifications.

“Wide Awake” is a song by American recording artist Katy Perry, from the album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (2012). The song was written by Perry, Bonnie McKee, Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Cirkut, and was produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut. The song was specifically written for Perry’s film Katy Perry: Part of Me, which plays during the end credits and from That’s Our Joe from the episode “Love Affair”. “Wide Awake” was released on May 22, 2012 by Capitol Records as the second single from the re-release and overall as the eighth single from the album.

A power ballad, “Wide Awake” utilizes electronica and dance-pop within its composition, and is lyrically reminiscent of the reality of a break up and moving past it. “Wide Awake” was written as part of promotion for her 2012 3D documentary-concert film, Katy Perry: Part of Me. The song was well received by critics, many noting its production and Perry’s maturity. “Wide Awake” reached number one in multiple countries, including Canada, New Zealand, and Poland, while peaking in the top ten position in Australia, Ireland, Lebanon, Mexico, Scotland, United Kingdom, and Venezuela.

“Wide Awake” became her tenth consecutive number-one single on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart and her ninth number-one single on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 (Pop Songs) chart, tying her with Rihanna as the artists with the most number one singles on the chart and has charted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry’s eleventh top-ten hit single in the United States, following all seven of the previous singles from Teenage Dream and three out of four singles from her debut album One of the Boys.
